1 min read

Hyundai Motor Co. has announced that the Kona subcompact SUV has sold 2 million units globally, reaching this milestone nearly eight years after its introduction, with around 90% of these sales occurring outside of the manufacturer's domestic market.

As of December 2024, Hyundai Motor Company reported that it had sold a total of 2,001,320 global units of the Kona, which became available in the market in June 2017.

Overseas markets accounted for 88.4% of sales, approximately 1.77 million units, the majority of which was driven by sales in Europe, with 664,162 units sold, followed by the United States with 512,020 units.

According to sales by powertrain, internal combustion engine models topped the list with 1.36 million units sold, trailed by 380,000 electric vehicles and 250,000 hybrids. Hyundai led the charge in electrification by introducing the electric Kona Electric in 2018 and the hybrid variant in 2019. In 2021, the company expanded its offerings with the high-performance Kona N model.
