The U.S.'s federal funding freeze was halted just moments before it was set to come into effect on Tuesday.
US District Judge Loren AliKhan has halted a temporary halt on federal grants, loans, and other financial aid implemented by the Trump administration, which could have otherwise blocked trillions of dollars in funding.
The government mostly spends the day trying to figure out its spending freeze and eliminate confusion over the programs that will be affected.
The Trump announcement caused surprise in Washington after the White House Budget Office issued a far-reaching order to suspend taxpayer funding for initiatives in education and healthcare, housing aid, disaster relief, and other areas until a review is completed.
"The administration contended that the funding should be put on hold while officials scrutinized it thoroughly.
The memo emphasizes that the halt is not intended to affect any assistance directly provided to individuals, such as Medicare or Social Security.
The move was met with swift criticism because it was unclear how the spending freeze would affect programs such as Medicaid, SNAP, and other forms of government assistance, as well as funding for local law enforcement and infrastructure projects.
