Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla selected to pilot NASA's private Axiom Mission 4 to ISS

New Delhi [India], January 31 (ANI): Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla, an Air Force Officer from the Indian Air Force, has been chosen to be the "Prime" astronaut for India's Gaganyaan space mission with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and has also been selected as the pilot for the Axiom Mission 4 that is scheduled for Spring 2025.

A serving officer of the Indian Air Force, Shubhanshu Shukla, will serve as pilot for the Ax-4 mission. The Ax-4 mission will be led by Peggy Whitson, a former NASA astronaut and Axiom Space's director of Human Spaceflight. The two mission specialists are Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski from the European Space Agency in Poland and Tibor Kapu from Hungary.

The Ax-4 mission will "realize the return" to human spaceflight for India, Poland, and Hungary, marking the first government-sponsored flight for each country since more than 40 years.
