An exhibition of new works by Răzvan Anton is scheduled to open at Gaep on February 28.
To be showcased in the exhibition.
in 2015.
After working with public archives such as the Minerva Press Photo Archive for several years, Anton shifted his focus in 2022 to explore his family's collection. The works in the exhibition showcase this change in his artistic approach. Yet, he still employs a heliographic technique to uncover hidden meanings from the surface of old images. "Anton begins by creating hatched patterns on perforated paper sheets using a blue ballpoint pen. He then overlays a transparent screen bearing the negative image of the discovered picture onto the paper. Finally, he places the layered sheets on the windows of his studio, allowing sunlight to print the image through a time-consuming process that may last weeks or months, depending on the season."
Răzvan Anton, a resident of Cluj-Napoca, holds an MA degree in drawing from Camberwell College of Arts London, following an MA at the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca. His work has been featured in exhibitions at MGML – Match Gallery (Ljubljana, 2021), Motorenhalle/riesa efau (Dresden, 2019), Politecnico di Milano – Galleria del Progetto (Milan, 2019) and in the biennials 15th Bienal de la Habana (Havana, 2024) and Art Encounters (Timișoara, 2017), among other venues. Anton was an artist-in-residence at MuseumsQuartier in Vienna and at The House by the Synagogue, Mediaș, as part of the project Absence as Heritage/TRACES.
The exhibition will remain open until April 12th.
