China's first official Harry Potter Studio Tour is set to open in Shanghai in 2027, according to a statement from U.S. entertainment company Warner Bros Discovery, which has reached an agreement with a local tourism and hotel group.
The fantasy franchise is extremely popular in China, with its capital, Beijing, already boasting a large-scale Harry Potter-themed attraction at a Universal Studios park.
The Studio Tour, also located in London and Tokyo, offers visitors a behind-the-scenes look at sets, costumes, and props from the movies.
Warner Bros Discovery announced that this is the first Harry Potter Studio Tour to be launched in China, adding that it is anticipated to begin operations in 2027.
This project is being carried out in collaboration with Jinjiang International, a Shanghai-based conglomerate specializing in tourism and hotels, it stated, noting that the joint venture agreement is currently pending regulatory approval.
According to a statement released by Jinjiang International on Wednesday, the new Harry Potter attraction will allow visitors to embark on an unparalleled and magnificent behind-the-scenes journey, featuring a variety of interactive experiences.
The new attraction will be situated in an existing amusement park in Shanghai, specifically the Jinjiang Action Park, which has been closed for renovation since January 26. It is anticipated that the park will not reopen until the attraction's launch in 2027.
The site is expected to span approximately 53,000 square meters, according to Warner Bros. Discovery, which also stated that "the entire visit will take about half a day".
