Republican strategist Mike Murphy discusses with the Plug-In Podcast how electric cars have become "tribalized" and how to overcome this issue.
The mood surrounding her campaign for the U.S. Senate.
What can be done about it?
Two groups with a common objective are working to depoliticize Electric Vehicles (EVs) across America.
Besides preferring the electric experience over gas cars, Murphy, a native of Detroit, is clear on the stakes involved. "It will not be the end of the world if we're all driving Chinese electric vehicles priced at $27,000, but it will be a disappointment to me," he said.
He's still trying to address issues such as jobs and China's competitive advantage, which haven't been fully overcome yet.
In a comprehensive conversation, we discuss what drives many Republican voters away from electric vehicles (including the drawbacks that are legitimate, such as costs and limited charging infrastructure); the potential impact of Elon Musk and President Donald Trump on the electric vehicle transition over the next few years; and what steps can be taken to persuade those who remain skeptical.
