Level crossings to close as part of rail upgrades

2 min read

Network Rail has announced that a series of level crossings and a railway line will be closed in Surrey during an upgrade project.

All crossings will have new signalling systems installed as part of the upgrades to the North Downs railway line between Guildford and Gatwick Airport.

The work will also feature 16 new signals along the length of the railway, which will contribute to providing a more dependable service for passengers.

Network Rail indicated that additional weekend closures will be necessary to fully complete the installation of the crossings, which are expected to become operational in October 2025.

The closures are:

  • The Brook Level Crossing on New Road, Albury, will be closed at all times, effective immediately through to 17 February.
  • The Burrows Lane Level Crossing on Queen Street, Gomshall, will be closed at all times until February 17th.
  • The Chilworth Level Crossing on Sampleoak Road in Chilworth will be closed every night from 8 February to 17 February. Additionally, it will be closed the entire day on 13 February.

The railway line is scheduled to reopen on 17 February.

During the entire closure, buses will be replacing trains.
