At last, a refreshed Tesla Model Y has finally arrived. For 2026, the electric crossover has received its first significant update since it first went on sale back in 2020. The main question is: Is it sufficient? You can interpret that in a few different ways.

"The Model
Many reviewers have noted that the new Model Y's suspension provides a much softer ride compared to its predecessor. One of the main criticisms of the Model Y has long been its firm and jarring ride quality. However, the updated version is reported to be significantly more laid-back and comfortable.
The presenter pointed out the absence of tire noise while driving at approximately 120 miles per hour on the Autobahn.
On Jay Leno's "Jay Leno's Garage" YouTube show, Leno mentioned that the Model Y feels "solid" and more stable than before, and highlighted its speed. However, speed is a common trait among most electric vehicles, so it's not a particularly distinguishing feature.
"The thing is incredibly fast. It's very amusing," Leno said. He was driving the all-wheel-drive Launch Edition, which is the initial version available for purchase.
A Higher-End Interior
They lack the build quality or the premium feel to justify their price tags.
Most reviewers were pleased with that.
“However, the drive selector is still on the screen, which I must admit, I truly dislike,” said Mat Watson of the CarWow YouTube channel.
A Polarizing Design
The new exterior design of the Model Y received mixed reviews. Watson stated that the facelift is "one of the most effective ones I've ever seen on any car," and it resolves the "fish-like" appearance of the previous Model Y.

It looks different. It appears more polished, but I have a feeling it's actually slightly less distinctive," Ford said. "Although I think this looks better than the old car, I'm not sure it resembles a Tesla as much anymore.
In response to CEO Elon Musk's move to slash government spending and his ongoing political activism, the sales of the new Model Y will serve as a key indicator of how much Tesla's own success will be affected by its top executive's actions.
