Osun monarch charges Nigerians to assist less privileged

3 min read

A prominent traditional leader in Osun State, the Salu of Edunabon, Oba Kehinde Oladepo, has encouraged all well-intentioned Nigerians to provide help to those in need in society in order to enrich their lives.

The monarch made this announcement on Tuesday at a program organized by a non-governmental organization, Tips Global Investment Limited, a community-focused healthcare foundation, which provided free food items to widows, the elderly, and the underprivileged in the town, at his palace.

Nigeria's Oba Oladepo noted, "This initiative is timely, given the current challenges of rising food costs and economic hardship, which have made it harder for many Nigerian households to access basic food items." He encouraged well-intentioned Nigerians to help make food more accessible.

The monarch stated, "I want to commend the person who initiated this project. He is not a local, yet he is contributing food to those in need. He is not a politician, and he is not seeking any favors."

“Through such initiatives, we aim to stimulate significant local food production, which will have a long-term positive impact on the economy. The additional medical services also align with the government's healthcare objectives.”

He said, "The government can't accomplish this on its own. We shouldn't constantly blame the government - some of us have to take responsibility. That's why we're commending the foundation for its efforts to improve the lives of those in need."

Earlier, food items valued at thousands of naira were donated to 2,000 residents of the Edunabon community in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State to assist in alleviating the hunger caused by the country's current economic difficulties.

Recipients of the donated food items by Tips Global Investment Limited, a community outreach healthcare foundation, included widows, the elderly, and those in need.

The foundation also offered free medical care to over 500 elderly men and women, enabling them to receive a comprehensive health assessment and improve their overall well-being.

Speaking at the program held at the town's palace, the founder of the non-governmental organization, Tobiloba Oyebamiji, stated that he initiated the program to alleviate the suffering of those in need and give back to society.

Describing his background as difficult, Oyebamiji stated that he overcame many obstacles before reaching his current position, crediting it to the blessing of God.

He further stated that he comprehends what poverty entails and was deeply moved by compassion to undertake this humanitarian initiative to assist those in need during the current economic difficulties in the country.

One of the recipients, who introduced himself as Adewale Adetunji, stated that the food items arrived at a perfect time, as he had run out of food before being invited to participate in the program.
