Mohamed Salah of Liverpool has become the first player in Premier League history to record two separate seasons with 40 or more combined goals and assists.
But where does the Egyptian king's incredibly impressive 2024-25 season rank among the greatest individual seasons in history? Mohamed Salah may well end up topping the list by the end of May.

Thierry Henry (2004-05) - 39 goals

If it wasn't for Chelsea's outstanding defensive performance under Jose Mourinho, Henry's remarkable season may have propelled them to the title for a second consecutive year.

Didier Drogba (2009-10) – 39

Having spent five years at Chelsea by that point, Drogba was considered one of the league's top performers, and 2009 was undoubtedly his most impressive season.
Well known for intimidating defenders and excelling in the air, his 29 goals and 10 assists in Carlo Ancelotti's high-scoring side were crucial to them winning the championship for the first time since 2006.
He performed exceptionally well in high-stakes games and critical situations this season, largely due to the excellent support of his Chelsea team.
Despite needing a win on the final day, they managed to secure victory, defeating Wigan Athletic 8-0 and claiming the Golden Boot award in the process.
Robin van Persie (2011-12) - 39 goals.

The season in which Van Persie led Manchester United to their last Premier League championship.
He actually accumulated more goal involvements in his last season with Arsenal. It's no surprise his move to Manchester United was so difficult to accept.

Arne Slot's Reds are 11 points ahead at the top of the Premier League table, and they owe it to their star player, who has been virtually unstoppable this season.
If he continues at this rate, he will finish with 57 combined goals and assists and break the Premier League record (held from the 42-game era). He only needs seven more to achieve it.
Salah needs five assists to break the all-time record for assists (20 – held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne) and 12 more goals to break Haaland’s 36-goal record. It's a difficult challenge, but looking at his current performance, you would be foolish to count him out.

It's truly remarkable that this is Haaland's first season in the English league.
He scored his first goal against West Ham, then netted 13 goals in just seven matches, including two consecutive hat-tricks against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
He presented a form unlike anything we had witnessed in years, and an aura of inevitability surrounded him almost immediately.
He held the record for the longest goal drought, which lasted two games, but later broke Mohamed Salah’s record for most goals in a 38-game season with 36 goals in 35 appearances.
In total, he scored 52 goals in 53 games across all competitions as his team achieved a historic treble, and Haaland was the uncontested Player of the Season.
Thierry Henry (2002-03) – 44 goals

At the height of his abilities, Henry was intimidating. In the 2002-03 season, he was causing problems for teams with his goal-scoring ability and creativity, as he dominated games with his speed, skill, and direct style.
Despite their efforts, they ultimately finished below Manchester United in the league standings.
Henry's performances that season were legendary and earned him a spot in the PFA Team of the Year, the UEFA Team of the Year, and the PFA Player of the Season award.

The most impressive part was that none of them originated from penalty kicks, making him a genuine goal-scorer.
He also recorded 13 assists, making him the only player to lead the league in both goals and assists in a single season. A highly underappreciated player who warrants more recognition.
1. Alan Shearer (1994-95) – 47 goals

Arguably his most impressive season ever, Shearer was in spectacular form for Blackburn as his goals propelled them to an unexpected championship win ahead of Manchester United.
He achieved a remarkable feat, scoring three hat-tricks throughout the season, playing in all 42 matches.
He scored the decisive goal in the penultimate league match at home against Newcastle, securing the championship for his team.
Between 1993 and 1996, he successfully scored over 30 league goals in three consecutive seasons, solidifying his reputation as a natural goal-scorer. His impressive record of 260 goals in 441 games remains unbroken to this day.
