He has stated that he prioritizes quality over speed in filmmaking, stating that he would rather stop working on a project than rush it into production without ensuring it meets his creative standards.
Co-CEO Peter Safran addressed concerns about the studio potentially becoming a "movie factory" rather than prioritizing organic storytelling.
"I'd quit," Gunn said. "I'm being serious! I'm not going to do this unless I believe we're doing something good, something that's cool and effective," he stated.
The filmmaker stated, "I'm not saying I'm going to quit, I'm not condemning DC."
Safran reiterated Gunn's sentiments, emphasizing that their approach is deliberate, with no pressure from higher authorities to expedite production.
"We're very intentional with our content output. We're not aiming to produce five films and five series per year. Our focus is on delivering exceptional adaptations of the stories we're passionate about, and we're under no pressure from [WBD CEO] David [Zaslav] or anyone else to exceed that goal," Safran stated, as quoted by Deadline.
Gunn has consistently emphasized that, unlike other studios, he will not push a project into production unless the script is fully prepared, Deadline reported.
The DC Studios was restructured in November 2022 after Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) CEO David Zaslav decided to revitalize the studio following the Warner Media-Discovery merger.
The company plans to release two live-action films and one animated movie every year, in addition to two live-action and two animated series on Max annually.
The cast includes Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Maria Gabriela de Faria, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, and Neva Howell.
The movie is set to premiere in cinemas on July 11, 2025.
