3 min read

The government spokesperson has emphasized President William Ruto’s accomplishments halfway through his term, marking two years since he assumed office.

On Tuesday, Isaac Mwaura stated that the government is progressing well with the implementation of the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

"The administration is moving forward with addressing the cost of living, ensuring food security, boosting economic expansion, and generating employment via the five key areas outlined in the BETA Plan," Mwaura stated at a press conference.

He stated that Kenya Kwanza’s Affordable Housing Program has so far provided employment opportunities for 244,232 Kenyans.

Mwaura observed that out of all the jobs generated, 100,000 were filled by young people from Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutes.

He stated that a sum of Sh4.4 billion has been disbursed to Jua Kali craftsmen participating in the initiative nationwide.

“A team from Kibera received over 750 million shillings, while another group in Ruiru obtained 100 million shillings. Additionally, a third group in Thika garnered an identical amount and more,” he mentioned.

Mwaura also highlighted that there has been a 53 percent rise in fiber-optic connections, with an extra 4,690 kilometers added from 2022 to 2025.

"This increased accessibility to the internet has improved digital inclusion and nationwide connectivity, and it is also bolstering service provision in both the private and public sectors," he noted.

He mentioned that the count of digitalized governmental services has risen from 350 in 2022 to 20,985 by 2025.

These services have been incorporated into the eCitizen and mobile platforms to ensure smooth service delivery. Consequently, daily revenue collection has increased to between KES 700 million and KES 1 billion.

Mwaura mentioned that 1.7 billion seedlings have been produced and 758 million trees have been planted through a collaborative governmental effort aimed at increasing tree growth.

Moreover, he stated that 7,505 hectares of mangrove forests have been restored, and an additional 3,054 hectares of bamboo forests have been planted.

He stated that The Hustler Fund is fostering economic expansion, increasing employment opportunities, and promoting fiscal strength.

Mwaura observed that the government has released KES 63.5 million to 26.3 million people and KES 196.8 million to 58.63 micro and small enterprises, aimed at bolstering businesses and boosting economic activities locally.

" Loan caps have gradually increased from 500 to 3,000 in 2022 to range between 100 and 50,000 in 2023, aiming to support over 1.3 million returning clients," he stated.

Mwaura also mentioned that the government has reinforced the legal foundation to implement the compulsory enrollment in Social Health Insurance for everyone.

Regarding universal health insurance, his stance is mentioned that approximately 19.7 million Kenyans have enrolled with the Social Health Authority (SHA), as opposed to the 8 million who were previously registered with the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).

"Furthermore, the administration has facilitated access to essential health services and funding for emergencies related to ongoing and severe medical conditions, thus alleviating the economic burden on those who benefit. In addition, 106,542 Community Health Promoters (CHPs) have undergone training, and 100,000 kits were distributed to these promoters," he mentioned.
