
On Monday, March 24, Romania achieved a decisive 5-1 win against San Marino in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, advancing to second place in Group H.
The Romanian team controlled the game, scoring goals through Mihai Popescu, Răzvan Marin, Ianis Hagi, and Denis Alibec, as well as benefiting from an own goal by San Marino’s Cevoli. In the meantime, Bosnia and Herzegovina secured their position at the top of Group H by defeating Cyprus 2-1 at home, following up an earlier victory over Romania with a scoreline of 1-0. Although the Romanian team began the qualifying rounds poorly due to this defeat, they recovered impressively with a dominant display against San Marino.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The twelve group winners from the qualifiers will secure their spots directly, whereas the runners-up along with the best four teams from the Nations League will compete in a playoff stage to fill out the last four berths for European nations.
