Phu Quoc Island, which was ranked as the globe’s second most stunning destination by readers of the U.S.-based Travel+Leisure magazine, saw an influx of over two million travelers during the initial three months of the year. This figure included approximately 474,468 international guests, marking a significant increase of 66.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

Vietnam's biggest island aims for 1 million international tourists this year.

Phu Quoc has been chosen as the venue for the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2027.

In preparation for this event, the southern province of Kien Giang, which includes Phu Quoc, is enhancing its infrastructure. This involves improvements at the international airport, as well as upgrades to local hotels, resorts, entertainment facilities, transport networks, and ports. During the initial three months, Kien Giang saw more than 3.1 million visitors, reaching 28.4 percent of its annual objective and showing a 13.7 percent rise compared to last year’s figures.

The province's tourism income jumped by 79.4%, reaching more than VND13.04 trillion ($508.68 million), according to the provincial Department of Tourism.

Bui Quoc Thai, director of the department, mentioned they are collaborating with various authorities and institutions to execute strategies for boosting tourism. Additionally, they aim to enhance partnerships with provincial and municipal levels across the country to advance tourism growth.

Kien Giang is also enhancing tourism connections with both local and global partners, investigating new sea travel paths to Cambodia, Thailand, and Malaysia.
