The artist from Canada was born in Manitoba in nineteen fifty-seven.
Loreena's path in life was predetermined. A highly skilled harpist and accordionist, the composer and performer has consistently drawn inspiration from the depths of her Celtic heritage. She adds flavor to her instantly recognizable new-age folk music with exotic spices from her experiences in the Middle East and India.
Since her debut album "Elemental" (1985), the outcome has been a repertoire of poetic melodies, often haunting, even hypnotic, that make her music completely distinct. In her four-decade career, Loreena has released fewer than a dozen studio recordings, of which "The Mask And Mirror" (1994) is the foundation. With its Gregorian and Indian influences, "The Mystic's Dream" on this album has become an anthem for fans of the Canadian artist, as well as her most well-known song beyond the extensive circle of devoted admirers.
She has also contributed her songs or composed original music for a significant number of documentaries and films, such as the 1995 film "Highlander." It wasn't until the third installment of the series, subtitled "The Sorcerer", that her connection to Celtic-themed films was first considered. She reunited with Christophe Lambert and composer Peter Robinson, the creator of the film's musical score.
“Lost Souls”, her latest personal album, goes back to 2018. When asked about certain vocal similarities with Kate Bush on the song “Ages Past, Ages Hence”, Loreena revealed her admiration for the creator of “Running Up That Hill” without any secrecy.
