The Redeemed Christian Church of God has requested that due process be followed in the ongoing investigation into Olumide Ogunsanwo, also known as SeaKing.
Seaking was arrested after criticizing RCCG's General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, for his call for a 100-day fast for Nigeria, which Seaking referred to as "stupid."
He distanced himself from the arrest.
The church's Public Relations Unit, Office of the Principal Executive Assistant to the General Overseer, released a statement on Monday clarifying that the videos containing allegedly defamatory statements made by SeaKing had not been fully reviewed.
As a result, the church has chosen to abide by the legal process.
The statement read, "There has been a viral video circulating that is calling for the release of Seaking303 by Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye."
It's worth noting that the earlier videos containing potentially defamatory statements had not been thoroughly reviewed.
“Following a thorough examination of the issues raised regarding certain comments and accusations, it has become essential to permit the legal process to proceed as it should.”
The church emphasized that Pastor Adeboye's heart of love does not take precedence over the importance of adhering to established procedures.
"The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, has a loving and reconciliatory spirit, but due process must be followed," the statement said.
The statement stressed that the church would not intervene in the ongoing police inquiry and expressed confidence in the authorities to conduct their work in a professional and lawful manner, leading to a just outcome.
"It is crucial to accurately comprehend Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye's comments during the Holy Ghost Service Night on Saturday concerning Olumide Ogunsanwo," the statement went on to say.
The church does not wish to intervene with the current police investigation, particularly since a formal complaint has been lodged by the Concerned Christian Youth Forum against Olumide Ogunsanwo John (Seaking303) and others on behalf of the Fathers of Faith, including Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye.
“Hence, we expect the relevant authorities to conduct their inquiries in a professional manner and arrive at a verdict that is based on the law,” it added.
Moreover, the RCCG warned against cyberbullying and defamatory comments targeting Adeboye, the church, and the broader Christian community.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to respectful dialogue, encouraging followers to participate in constructive conversations that show respect for spiritual leaders.
The church supports respectful dialogue and will continue to foster an environment of dignity, while discouraging derogatory and disrespectful comments.
“Respect for spiritual leaders is a deeply ingrained value within our belief system and cultural heritage. We advocate for engaging in constructive and respectful dialogue, acknowledging those who have dedicated themselves to their faith,” the statement concluded.
