Preparing for temperatures nearing 50 degrees Celsius, with authorities declaring a "code red" warning.
Temperatures in Oak Valley in South Australia are expected to reach 48 degrees Celsius, with the Nullarbor region expecting a high of 47 degrees Celsius.
These temperatures are the hottest recorded at this time of year in the region since the year 2007.
The temperature is forecasted to rise above 103F.
Lowest temperatures during the night will be in the range of 20 to 30 degrees.
The South African government announced that the 'Tier 1 Code Red' alert would be in effect from 9am on Tuesday to 5pm on Wednesday.
For the elderly, extreme weather conditions can pose serious risks. A Code Blue can also be activated in extremely cold weather.
Under the measures, support workers will visit known areas where people are homeless to help them access shelter services. Staff from the Red Cross will also contact registered participants up to three times a day to check on their well-being and arrange medical assistance if necessary.


"This is the first major heatwave in over three years, and it's crucial that people take necessary precautions to protect themselves," Minister for Human Services Nat Cook stated.
'Extreme heat during the day is detrimental, but if it doesn't decrease at night, people's bodies don't get a chance to recover, and they can be at risk.'
